~When Differences Turns Into Similarities... Happy Malaysia Day~

HUMANS ARE MADE DIFFERENT, DIFFERENT RACES, DIFFERENT RELIGION, DIFFERENT IN EVERY SINGLE WAY, FROM EACH OTHER, EVEN FROM THE SAME SKIN COLOUR, SAME PARENTS, OR EVEN IDENTICAL TWINS, WE ARE ALL STILL DIFFERENT IN A WAY. BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER ON WHAT PULLED US TOGETHER, WHICH WOULD BE THE SIMILARITIES EVERYONE HAS… BEING A MALAYSIAN.

Quarreling, arguing, for this law, for this enactment, for so many things just because of a small differences between people could cause fighting, could cause hatred or revenge, or many other consequences that nobody might want to face. Being a country which has an independence of 53 years, together with 48 years being Malaysia, what has separated all of us being different is due to our mindset.

Differences of our mindset have brought each and every one of us to think differently. Adding on with a higher level of education nowadays, people know how to fight for their own rights, but they have always neglected some other issue, which would be the others’ rights, making it really selfish on who they are, regardless of them as a group or as an individual.

Each of us was born different and we have to face the fact that we were so. Therefore, if each of us would have fight for our own rights, will there be an end towards these argument, just for a matter which is as tiny as a pea? This doesn’t make any sense at all. Why not spending those time to do something worth better for ourselves rather than fighting for things that would not benefit us, in which we would be happy, and at the same time, we would not regret that we did not do our part to make our life better. Working things that we like is not only for ourselves, but indirectly affect others and the country's growth of economy. Wouldn't it be better this way?

As a communication student, my lecturer has thought me that to build a stable communication, it needs a common ground. A common ground means something that is similar between people to build an effective communication. As a Malaysian, what common ground that could not be seen would be different races available in Malaysia, the different religions or even different regions.

But, there is a common ground that exists among us despite that we are all different. The food in Malaysia is always the common ground where I bet most of the Malaysian love durians, and every time, when the durian season arrives, happiness and joy could be heard all around. Foreigners do not really know how to appreciate durian, but we as the Malaysians do, in which makes us unique, and at the same moment, building a common ground between us.

The other common ground that I would like to share is that I personally love Indian and Malay food. Nasi Dagang and Nasi Lemak is my favourite, Indian green curry (forgot what it is called, sorry) and also some homemade chapatti is really awesome. If food could be the common ground that we all could talk about, we could share and therefore, coming up with something new, which compromises every single individuals in Malaysia, which makes us the same. Wouldn’t this be a great idea?

The obvious common ground that could be found would be our identity card. We are all Malaysians, therefore, what is the point of fighting amongst each other. We’re all family members, because we all have the same colour of identity card, same size and shape, which makes us all the same.

Therefore, as a Malaysian, live as a family,
as the future of Malaysia, lies in our hand.
